How to Create Botanical Name Cards for Your Spring Table:
I think Spring is the perfect time to bring a touch of nature to your table, and what better way to do it than with handcrafted botanical name cards? These delicate details make every guest feel welcomed and add a thoughtful, personal touch to your entertaining. I recently created a set for a spring table with lilacs (not yet in bloom!) and wanted to share the process.
What You’ll Need for creating your Botanical Name Cards:
-
Watercolour paper card for the name cards and leaves
-
Watercolour paints and brushes
-
Dark green floral wire (think so you can shape the heart)
-
Fine ink pen
-
Scissors or craft knife
-
Needle or pin for threading

Step 1: Paint and Cut Your Leaves
Start by painting a few simple green leaves in watercolour. You can vary the shades of green to create a natural, layered effect. Once dry, carefully cut each leaf out by hand. I used two to three green leaves per name card for a balanced look.
Step 2: Prepare the Name Cards
Cut out the same leaf shape from white card. Using a fine ink pen, write each guest’s name neatly on the white leaf. The contrast between the white and green leaves will make the names stand out beautifully.

Step 3: Shape the Wire into a heart
Take a piece of dark green floral wire and shape the top into a small heart. This will sit above your leaves and name card, adding a sweet finishing touch.
Step 4: Assemble Your Botanical Name Cards
Before closing the heart completely, thread the green leaves and the white name card onto the wire so they sit just below the heart. Layer the leaves behind the name card for a natural, botanical look.
Step 5: Display your Botanical Name Cards on Your Table
Place your handcrafted name cards on your table. I paired mine with lilacs that aren’t yet in bloom—the quiet, understated stems complement the delicate details of the cards. Small touches like these bring the whole table together.
These botanical name cards are perfect for spring dinners, garden parties, or any occasion where you want to impress guests with thoughtful, handcrafted details. The combination of watercolour, fine ink pen, and subtle wire hearts creates a look that’s both elegant and personal. My guests often ask if they can take their name card with them home as a little keepsake, and I think that is a lovely touch.
For this table setting we used our washed pure linen napkins in Olive, natural leather napkin rings, paired with the stunning vintage limited edition Ian Mankin fabric placemats – hand sewn in Cheshire. A fabulous mix of botanical greens and patterns – with the stunning lilac in the centre.
I hope you will enjoy creating your botanical names cards!
