Inspired by Nina’s Swedish upbringing, every Nina D design is named after a person or place close to her heart. Ekotemplet takes its name from the Haga Echo Temple in Hagaparken, Stockholm — a historic pavilion built in 1790 for King Gustav III’s summer dining gatherings.

Design Inspiration – Ekotemplet
Ekotemplet is named after the Haga Echo Temple in Hagaparken, Stockholm, a place filled with childhood memories for Nina.
Growing up in Solna, just north of Stockholm city centre, Nina spent many happy days exploring Hagaparken. She was particularly drawn to the beautiful oval Echo Temple, built in 1790 as a summer dining room for King Gustav III, who loved to entertain outdoors.
The unique oval shape created wonderful acoustics, allowing conversations to flow around the table as the king and his guests gathered together.
Inspired by this connection between nature, architecture and the joy of shared dining, Ekotemplet celebrates the Scandinavian tradition of creating beautiful spaces for gathering.
Ekotemplet Large Round Placemat – Materials & Details
Materials
Each Ekotemplet large round placemat is individually handmade in Britain using sustainably sourced eucalyptus board, carefully selected for its strength, durability and smooth finish.
The 0.5cm thick eucalyptus board is finished with a superior melamine lacquered resin surface, creating a beautifully smooth finish that is:
- Heat resistant up to 140°C
- Scratch resistant
- Stain resistant
- Easy to wipe clean
A protective non-slip cork backing helps to keep the placemat securely in place while protecting your dining table surface.
The artwork has been created using Nina’s signature two-dimensional layering technique, giving the appearance of depth and texture. Although the design looks layered, the finished surface is completely smooth, making it practical for everyday dining.
