Karlaplan is inspired by the elegant open park plaza of the same name in Östermalm, one of central Stockholm’s most prestigious districts.
Designed in the image of Place de l’Étoile in Paris, Karlaplan remains one of the most beautiful and exclusive locations in the Swedish capital.
The circular park setting, surrounding greenery and elegant architecture create a unique atmosphere where city life meets Scandinavian calm — the inspiration behind this layered street scene design.
Karlaplan Medium Placemat – Materials & Details
Materials
Each Karlaplan medium placemat is individually handcrafted in Britain using sustainably sourced eucalyptus hardboard, selected for its strength, durability and smooth finish.
The 0.5cm thick eucalyptus board is finished with a superior melamine lacquered surface, creating an elegant and practical finish that is:
- Heat resistant up to 140°C (320°F)
- Scratch resistant
- Stain resistant
- Easy to wipe clean
A non-slip eco-friendly cork backing protects your dining surface while keeping the placemat securely in place.
The Karlaplan artwork is created from Nina’s original hand illustrated design, using her signature two-dimensional layering technique. The individual figures and street scene elements are carefully layered to create depth, movement and a charming Stockholm moment.
