Design Inspiration – Ulriksdal Palace, Stockholm, Sweden
The Ulriksdal design is inspired by Ulriksdal Palace, situated on the banks of Edsviken Lake within Stockholm’s National City Park.
Built in the 1600s, the palace is surrounded by beautiful pleasure gardens and an Orangery, and its grounds are also home to Sweden’s oldest Rococo theatre, dating back to 1753.
Opera productions continue to be presented at the theatre today, and shortly before leaving Sweden to study Theatre Design in London, Nina had the opportunity to sketch the cast during rehearsals for Così fan tutte.
The Ulriksdal design represents a hand crafted mosaic of leaves, individually painted, cut and layered into a floral composition. The depth and perspective within the artwork reflect the theatrical scenery and visual storytelling found on stage — a beautiful connection between Nina’s Swedish heritage, theatre design background and contemporary tableware.
